Year 6 21/22
Year 6 Update
Before half-term Year 6 erupted the volcanoes they had created. We have been studying volcanoes in Geography and the children designed their own volcanoes using paper mache . We created a chemical reaction using baking powder and vinegar to replicate an eruption. Look at the pictures to see the results. The children are now busy writing their own news report about their volcanoes.
Year 6 Update
This past Friday the year 6 students were practicing their cutting and gluing skills in DT. They are working on the final project this week.
Happy new year!
A big happy new year to all of our families!
We wanted to share some of what the year 6 children will be doing this term.
In English we have started our new book, 'The Watertower' by Gary Crew. We will be writing a mysterious narrative at the end of this learning journey. Take a look at the front cover and see what you think might happen!
In Guided Reading our new book is called 'The Nowhere Emporium' and we have started this book by making predictions on what we believe it might be about. We have unpicked new vocabulary and created word banks to further our understanding of the new genre.
Finally, in Geography we are studying Asia. The children have been researching what countries are in Asia and where in the world Asia is. We can't wait to share some photos of their work with you when they're ready!
We are so proud of how well they have settled back into school since coming back from the christmas holidays. It has been so lovely to have the children back in school and enjoying their new topics and books.
Welcome to the team!
As some of you may know, the year 6 teachers now consist of Miss Oastler (our pupil premum lead) and Mrs Horne (our SENCO) from Autumn Term 2. They will be job sharing Alder class with Miss Oastler in class Monday to Wednesday and Mrs Horne Thursday and Friday. Mrs Clarke (our maths leader) is still the other part of the year 6 team. The classroom is looking fantastic with a new book corner all about Narnia! This will also be our guided reading booking coming up this term.
If you have any questions please feel free to speak to either teacher from Alder class, they will always be happy to help.
